Non-residents are eligible for immediate licensing provided they hold a license in their home state. Residents of Nevada and Ohio cannot be licensed as an adjuster in Wyoming, and residents of New York and Arizona must take the Wyoming Adjuster Exam.


Adjuster License Requirements

To become a licensed Wyoming insurance adjuster, individuals must:

  • Be 18 years of age or more.
  • Fulfill one of the following three qualifications:
    • Have had experience, special education, or training in the handling of loss claims under insurance contracts of sufficient duration and extent to make the applicant competent in fulfilling the duties of an adjuster
    • Be a graduate of a recognized law school
    • Be a full-time, salaried employee of a licensed adjuster.
  • Maintain an office accessible to the public, with records pertaining to transactions under the license.
  • Agree to comply with the reporting requirements of Wyoming.
  • Must pass the Wyoming licensing exam or the licensing exam from their home state. (Residents of New York and Arizona: see exceptions.)
  • Must not be from Nevada or Ohio.

Wyoming License Application

  • Exam is administered by Pearson VUE (http://www.pearsonvue.com or 1-866-936-7786).
  • Resident Applicants or Nonresident Applicants not licensed in their home state must:
    • Pass the Wyoming General Lines (All-Lines) or Crop Hail licensing exam, prior to submitting application to the government,
    • Send a completed license application,
    • Send the required credit/criminal investigation report. This report must:
      • Contain a complete credit report and,  
      • Include both federal and state level criminal background searches for the previous five years from the counties or districts where the applicant has lived and worked.  
      • Verification from the following sources will satisfy the criminal records search requirements.  
      • A Federal criminal records search from the Federal District Court and a State criminal records search of State District Courts (felony offenses) and State County or Circuit Courts (misdemeanor offenses) for the appropriate jurisdictions are required.
    • Send $100 Adjuster License Fee.
  • Nonresident Applicants licensed in their home state must send in:
    • Wyoming Adjuster Application,
    • $100 Adjuster License Fee,
    • Letter of Certification from state of residence.

Reciprocity

Wyoming grants reciprocity with most other states' licenses, provided the applicant is licensed in his or her state of residence. No exam is required if applicant is licensed in his or her home state.

Exceptions: Residents of New York and Arizona must pass the Wyoming exam. Residents of Nevada and Ohio are not eligible to be licensed in Wyoming.

Maintaining Your License

  • This is a two-year license.
  • All Adjusters, resident and non-resident alike, are required to complete 24 continuing education credit hours during a two year licensing period, 3 of which must be approved as ethics courses.
  • Non-resident adjusters may report courses that have been approved by another State Insurance Department.
  • Renewal invoices will be mailed approximately 60 days prior to the license expiration date. Call the Licensing Division at 307 777-7319 to request a duplicate invoice.
  • Renewal can be done on-line through Sircon or NIPR.
  • Licenses may also be renewed through the mail by returning the bottom portion of the invoice with the renewal fees.

  • Continuing Education Filing Fee: $30
