Become a Mississippi Insurance Adjuster
Licensing Rules and State Exam Study Guides for Mississippi Claims Adjusters
AdjusterPro's Bottom-line: For non-residents, the Mississippi license is available to anyone with a license in Texas, Florida, or any other state that requires testing for adjusters.
Adjuster License Requirements
To become a licensed Mississippi insurance adjuster, individuals must:
- Be 18 years of age or more.
- Complete 12 hours of pre-licensing education in an approved adjuster course or have sufficient experience or training as an adjuster to make them competent in that role.
- Complete the Mississippi adjuster exam (residents)
- Emergency adjusters: In the event of a catastrophe, individuals may apply for a 180-day emergency adjuster license by filling out an “emergency independent adjuster application” and paying a $50 fee. Emergency adjuster applicants must be certified by a license Mississippi independent adjuster.
Adjuster Exam Registration
You may schedule your Mississippi Claims Adjuster exam online or by calling (601) 956-0049.
Mississippi License Application
- Applicants are encouraged to apply electronically via Sircon.
- If you wish to apply by mail, simply fill out and submit an Independent Adjuster License Application along with the proper application materials.
- The application fee is $50.00.
- Attach a certificate of completion of your pre-licensing education to your application when you submit it. If you apply electronically through Sircon, fax your pre-licensing certificate to (601) 359-1951.
- If you have experience or training as an insurance claims adjuster, submit proof of this experience to the Department to request an exemption from the pre-licensing education requirement.
- Non-residents: a complete non-resident application will consist of an application form, $50, a pre-licensing education certificate (or proof of experience or training), and proof of your licensure in your home state or a state that requires an exam.
- Residents: your test results will be submitted electronically once you have taken the Mississippi exam, so you do not need to include them with your application, even if you use the paper application.
- For detailed application instructions, see Independent Adjuster Application Instructions.
Reciprocity
Mississippi grants reciprocal licensing privileges to non-residents who hold a license by examination from their home state, or, if their home state does not require an exam, from any other state that does require an exam for licensure. If you do not meet either of these requirements, then you must pass the Mississippi exam to gain your license.
Maintaining Your License
- Residents are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education per year.
- This license is good for one year (expires May 31st of each year).
- If you renew electronically through Sircon, fax your continuing education certificate to (601) 359-1951.
- If you hold the Mississippi license reciprocally, you must remain CE compliant in your resident license’s state.
License Fees
- Initial Licensing and Application Fee: $50.
- License Renewal Fee: $50 (a $25 late fee is assessed if the application is not received by the expiration date).
