Top 10 Reasons to Become an Insurance Adjuster. Reason number 5 is…
It’s Interesting and Challenging!
Claims adjusting as a career has many paths, many of them amazingly interesting. When catastrophe strikes, Insurance Adjusters are among the first responders on the scene. We’re right in the thick of things, often before the power comes back on, before roads are cleared, before gas stations reopen, staying where we can, helping to bring people’s lives back to normal. Adjusters are there with the arson investigation team inspecting the still-smoldering remains of someone’s home. Floods, tornadoes, forest fires – we’re there, helping to make things right.
Catastrophe adjusters are not the only adjusters with interesting jobs. Worker’s compensation adjusters are often involved in stake-outs to determine if fraud is involved in a claim. Liability Adjusters investigate accident scenes, interview witnesses, and perform an exhaustive investigation that can often become the very foundation of a multi-million dollar trial. Adjusting specializations are too numerous to list, but include aviation, marine, heavy machinery, industrial accident investigation. Some of us work for international insurance companies; our jobs brings us around the world, helping out after tsunamis, earthquakes and other disasters.
Moreover, as we prove our abilities the adjusting industry rewards us with the opportunity to be involved in increasingly challenging and complex claims investigations, often working along with teams of lawyers, engineers and other specialists. Adjusters who specialize in appraisal, arbitration and mediation are often key players in dispute resolution involving many lives and large sums of money. Referring to how important our role is and the level of our involvement in the investigation, some in the industry joke that we get to practice law without a law degree! They are not far from the truth.
In summary, adjusting is interesting, exciting and challenging. As a career is almost limitless in its versatility – we can specialize according to our interests and talents. We can choose from a safe desk job or an exciting catastrophe adjusting position, and the more experienced and specialized we become, the more interesting the work gets!
